Glass Floors & Stairway GlassGlass floors and stairways bring a contemporary feel to any space by creating a feeling of openness and depth. The three types of glass floors are raised, infill and laminated. Raised floors use stanchions and panels to lift the floor off the ground, providing accessibility to concealed wiring below. When a lighting element is incorporated from underneath, the glass floor surface illuminates from below, enhancing room design and atmosphere. Infill glass floors consist of frame into which glass panels are placed. Laminated glass floors work the same as a piece of ceramic tile, in which glass panels are applied to a substrate over the floor slab.
There are many considerations when choosing the right glass for your floor or stairway including thickness of glass based on design load, level of transparency or privacy desired, scratch-resistance in heavy traffic areas, as well as ease of cleaning and maintenance. All flooring and stairway applications require non-skid material for safety.
